Welcome to the Photonics Group 

 

The Photonics Group is part of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. It was established in 2002 and it is led by Prof. Emmanouil E. Kriezis.

Our research covers a range of topics in nanophotonics and plasmonics with emphasis on guided-wave devices and photonic integrated circuits. We have expertise in an extensive number of theoretical and computational techniques for lightwave devices, including also carrier effects in semiconductor devices. Though our prime frequency range is the NIR, we also work on THz or microwave frequencies. 

Our current focus is on nonlinear/all-optical and electro-optical effects in contemporary material platforms, including silicon, graphene and transparent conducting oxides. Our expertise also extends to micro-structured optical fibers and liquid crystal photonics.
